Our rental terms, summarised
What our rental agreement asks of you and allows us to do, in ordinary language. This is a summary: the agreement you sign at handover binds, and where the two differ, the signed text applies.
Summary checked against the signed agreement and our price list on 30 September 2026.
The agreement you sign, in plain words
These terms are part of your rental agreement. Signing, accepting the vehicle, taking its keys or driving it all mean you accept them.
"The agreement" covers the signed agreement, these terms, your booking details, the inspection records and photographs, any payment authorisation, the annexes, notices and any other rental paper we issue.
"The renter" is anyone who books, pays, co-signs, is an authorised driver, or takes, holds or drives the vehicle. "We" and "us" mean Car Hire Paphos LTD.
"The vehicle" includes any replacement and all that comes with it: keys, fobs, papers, tools, tyres, wheels, accessories and any GPS unit. "Damage" is read widely: mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, interior and underbody harm, tyres, wheels, glass, suspension, engine, gearbox, clutch, keys and papers, contamination by water, salt or sand, and the towing, recovery, inspection and loss of use that follow.
The hire is temporary use: the vehicle stays ours, or its lawful owner's, and no ownership passes. We promise no fitness for any purpose beyond normal rental use on public asphalt roads under the agreement.
No clause changes without our written consent. With its booking details, inspection records, signed authorisations, annexes and other papers, the agreement is the whole agreement and replaces earlier talks or statements. If one part is invalid, the rest applies as far as the law allows. The law of the Republic of Cyprus governs it.

Price-list terms of every booking
These points come from our price list, not the contract text.
A request is free and holds nothing: no vehicle is set aside until we confirm. Nothing is prepaid: you pay at pick-up, cash or card. Third-party liability and 24/7 roadside assistance come with every hire.
Under 5 days on a Paphos car, unlimited mileage is your choice, never ticked for you.

| Mileage, Paphos car under 5 days | 200 km a day, or 20 EUR a day for unlimited |

| Helmet | Free with every scooter |

| Paphos handover outside 09:00 to 17:30 | 30 EUR; a hotel drop-off outside that window is free |
| Returns | To the same town; no one-way hire between Paphos and Limassol |
The 09:00 to 17:30 window marks where the handover fee starts, not our opening hours. The buggy and Limassol minimums are written exceptions to the agreement's 24-hour rule.
Drivers and licences
Only an authorised driver may drive, meaning someone we have expressly approved and listed or accepted. Nobody else, at any time.
Unless we approve otherwise, a driver must be at least 21 and must have held a valid licence for at least 2 years. Scooters, motorcycles and mopeds need the licence category the law requires, and the helmet and road-safety rules apply.
The price list adds these bands. Bring your original licence, not a copy.
| Rule | What applies |
|---|---|
| Cars, age on the pick-up date | 21 to 90; over 90 is refused |
| Age 74 to 75 | 15% added to the rental line |
| Age 76 to 90 | 30% added to the rental line |
| Who sets the senior band | The oldest named driver |
| Young driver, Paphos card | A percentage of the rental line when the youngest named driver is below that vehicle's threshold: 15% under 24 on the small cars, 15% under 23 on the scooters, 10% under 29 on the X-Trail (read on 19 September 2026) |
| Young driver, Limassol card | None |
| Scooter or buggy | The age floor can drop to 18, decided case by case on licence category, driving experience and what the insurance allows |
Insurance, the waiver and the deposit
Every vehicle has the third-party liability insurance Cyprus law requires, under that policy's terms and exclusions.
The optional Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) costs 15 EUR a day and is not full insurance: it limits what you pay for eligible bodywork damage, subject to the excess and the exclusions. The excess is 300 EUR unless your booking states otherwise. The waiver covers cars and both buggies, priced per buggy; the online form offers it on cars only, so for a buggy ask us.
The deposit is not the excess. The deposit, 300 EUR in cash or as a card hold, is held on every hire from collection and returned once the vehicle is back, per vehicle: two buggies, two deposits. The excess is the most you pay for eligible damage with the waiver.
Neither the insurance nor the waiver covers the cases below. In each you are fully liable and pay everything: damage, third-party claims, recovery, towing, inspection, storage, legal and admin costs, and loss of use.
- A driver who is not an authorised driver.
- Alcohol, drugs or medication that impairs you.
- Reckless driving, racing, excessive speed or deliberate misuse.
- Damage not reported to us at once and, where required, to the police.
- Engine, gearbox, clutch, drivetrain, overheating, wrong fuel, oil starvation or fluid contamination.
- Off-road, unpaved, beach, dirt, gravel, salt-lake, sand, mud, rock or prohibited-area use.
- Entering, without written approval, Akamas, Adonis Baths, Avakas Gorge, Lara Beach, White River Beach, the Sea Caves and Agios Georgios or Geronisos and Cape Drepano coastal tracks, Akrotiri, Ladies Mile, Cavo Greco, the north of Cyprus or any other prohibited area.
- Water, salt, sand, mud or contamination damage.
- Roof, underbody, sump, oil pan, exhaust, catalytic converter, protective panels, floor, chassis and suspension.
- Windscreen, windows, glass, mirrors and lights, unless expressly covered.
- Tyres, wheels, rims, hubcaps and punctures.
- Keys, fobs, papers, plates, accessories and equipment.
- Interior damage: stains, burns, seats, upholstery, trim, heavy dirt.
- Towing, recovery, storage, inspection and loss of use.
- Damage after a wrong return or abandonment.
Tarmac only, and the 15-metre turn
Every vehicle is for asphalt only, except a buggy or ATV/UTV we have specifically approved for off-road use.
Asphalt means a public tarmac road fit for normal vehicles; dirt, gravel, sand, stone, beach, salt lake, field, farm, building-site, coastal, forest and mountain surfaces are not. Off-road is any non-asphalt surface, even one a navigation app shows, locals drive, a tourist sign points to, a sight lies along, or that looks passable.
Banned surfaces include dirt and gravel roads, beaches, forest paths, mountain trails, dry riverbeds, fields, salt lakes, coastal tracks, rocky ground, sand, mud, building-site and farm tracks, and unpaved parking or access tracks. Parking off the tarmac is no exception unless we approve it.
Where the asphalt ends, stop and turn round at once. Up to 15 metres beyond it is allowed only to turn safely; further is a violation. No app, hotel, sign, review or local overrides this.
Without our prior written approval, stay out of the places listed below.
Each violation carries the table's fixed penalty plus a charge per started km beyond the 15 metres. Each entry, separate off-road route, geofence event or repeat may count as its own violation. It may also mean full liability for damage, loss of insurance and waiver cover, the hire ended on the spot, the vehicle taken back, towing, garage inspection and loss-of-use charges, and a further hold on your card.
After off-road use, a prohibited area, sand, salt, mud or stone exposure, an underbody knock, a warning light, an odd noise or suspected damage, we may have the vehicle inspected. You pay inspection, diagnosis, lifting, cleaning, reports, transport, staff time, recovery, towing and repair, on top of any penalty, and garage reports, invoices, photos, GPS records and notes may be used to assess it.
A buggy leaves the tarmac only on a route we approved in writing before it set off; that written route is the approval the agreement requires. Conditions on the day permitting, a route can reach Adonis Baths, White River, Avakas Gorge or Lara Bay. The Blue Lagoon and public highways never feature on one.
Public law applies separately. Under the Forests Law of 2012 (Law 25(I)/2012), a notice under its Section 44 can restrict or close State Forest areas, and breaching it can mean up to one year in prison, a fine up to 5,000 EUR, or both. Section 37 can make driving off a forest road and damaging vegetation or soil an offence. The agreement cites both sections on cylaw.org. Any public penalty comes on top of our charges, and we do not decide criminal liability.
| Vehicle class | Per violation | Per started km past 15 m |
|---|---|---|
| Scooter, moped or motorcycle | 300 EUR | 15 EUR |
| Standard car, such as the Nissan March, Nissan Note or Mitsubishi Mirage | 450 EUR | 20 EUR |
| SUV, crossover, MPV, minivan, 7 or 8 seat or premium car, such as the Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Serena or Toyota Sienta | 600 EUR | 30 EUR |
- Paphos district: Adonis Baths; Avakas Gorge; the Akamas Nature Park, with Fontana Amorosa and the Blue Lagoon; Lara Beach; White River Beach; the coastal tracks at Cape Drepano and Geronisos; the coastal tracks at Agios Georgios and the Sea Caves.
- Limassol district: Ladies Mile and Akrotiri.
- East coast: Cavo Greco.
- Anywhere: every beach and every salt lake.
Uses we never allow
The vehicle is never used for racing, drifting, rallies, speed tests or competitions, for towing or pushing, or for carrying more passengers than the law allows, illegal or hazardous goods, or an excessive load. Taxi, ride-share, delivery, courier and other commercial use needs our written approval. No driving under alcohol, drugs or impairing medication, and nothing that breaks the law, traffic rules, the insurance conditions or the agreement.
The vehicle stays in the areas the Republic of Cyprus controls unless we approve otherwise in writing. Crossing into the north, or any occupied territory, needs three things together: our permission given in advance, an insurance policy that covers the north, and the papers the crossing requires. Without our approval, damage there falls outside the insurance and the waiver.
Looking after the vehicle, breakdowns and accidents
Take reasonable care, drive carefully, obey the law and avoid anything that may damage the vehicle. On a warning light, overheating, a strange noise, a tyre problem, a leak, a collision or any mechanical or safety issue, stop and contact us straight away.
Report every accident, collision, theft, vandalism, third-party damage or police matter to us at once, and to the police where applicable. Not reporting may void the insurance and the waiver.
You pay damage outside the insurance or waiver, the excess, damage from prohibited use, loss of use, loss in value, admin handling, inspection and diagnosis, recovery, towing and storage, third-party costs and claims, and repairs costing more than an annex figure.
Extra charges can also arise from cleaning heavy dirt, sand, mud, salt, pet hair or stains; smoking or vaping inside; missing fuel; missing accessories, papers, keys or equipment; unreported damage; a late return or one to a place not agreed; excess mileage; and traffic and parking fines, tolls, penalties and admin costs.
We may supply a vehicle of the same, a similar or a higher class, a lower class with the price adjusted, or another you accept at handover. Inspecting, accepting, taking the keys to or using it counts as accepting the change, even if an updated signature link goes unsigned, unless you refuse it at once, before use, and hand the keys back. All other terms still apply.
Handing it back: time, place and keys
Return the vehicle on the agreed date and time, at the agreed place, in the condition you received it apart from normal wear. The minimum hire is 24 hours unless agreed otherwise in writing, and an early return brings no refund, credit or discount unless agreed in writing.
To extend, tell us at least 24 hours before the agreed return. An extension exists only once we approve it in writing and the extra rent, deposit or holds are paid before the original return time. Asking is not extending: without written confirmation, return at the original date, time and place.
Lateness costs 100 EUR at once, plus 20 EUR per started hour until the vehicle, keys and papers are physically received, inspected and accepted. So two hours late is 100 + 2 × 20 = 140 EUR. There is no automatic grace period; any grace must be confirmed in writing. Leaving the vehicle at a place not agreed does not stop the clock.
If lateness disrupts another booking, delivery, preparation, transfer, staff rota or operation, you also pay the resulting losses: compensation to others, transport, staff, recovery, loss of use, admin. A vehicle kept past its return time without an approved extension may be treated as retained without authority: we may end the hire, charge everything due, recover it, and give the agreement, GPS records and your details to the police or other authorities if required. Late charges may be taken from the deposit or the card on file.
Leaving or returning the vehicle anywhere or in any way not agreed (a hotel, the airport, a street, a car park, a roadside, someone else's premises) is prohibited: 300 EUR per incident plus actual costs and other charges. Added to that 300 EUR: recovery fuel at cost, staff time at 20 EUR per hour per person, 1.00 EUR per km relocation wear, taxis, buses, parking, towing, storage, ferries, police, locksmiths and other third parties at cost, and the 25 EUR admin fee. An unapproved one-way drop counts as the same thing: 300 EUR plus all actual costs.
Keys, fobs, remotes and papers go back to our staff or authorised representative, as agreed. Each key, fob or remote not returned at the end is a fixed 450 EUR, even if found later, plus replacement, programming, re-coding, lock change, towing, call-out, staff, delivery, recovery and loss-of-use costs. Replacement and programming may be charged at actual cost where that is above the annex figure.
Risk and full financial responsibility are yours until our representative has inspected and accepted the vehicle, keys and papers at the agreed return place; wherever it was left, you stay liable until we or our agent physically hold it and every key. While it is off the road through damage, misuse, a wrong return, abandonment, missing keys, police, recovery, inspection or repair, loss of use is the daily rate or 75 EUR a day, whichever is higher, until it is back in service.
Holds, the card on file and what can be charged later
You may be charged the daily rate and extras; delivery, collection, out-of-hours and location fees; fines, tolls and penalties; cleaning, fuel, damage, excess mileage and late return, with the late-return penalty, hourly charge and unapproved-extension charges; contractual, off-road and distance penalties; wrong-return and key penalties; inspection and repairs; staff time, fuel, relocation mileage and wear; recovery, towing, storage and third parties; admin fees; the excess; and loss of use.
We may hold a refundable deposit or pre-authorisation as security and apply it to anything unpaid. After a breach, damage, an accident, an off-road event, a prohibited-area entry, a missing item, a late return or another risk, we may add a further hold until the vehicle is back, inspected and accepted.
You authorise us to keep your card on file and charge it later, as card-on-file or merchant-initiated transactions, for any amount due. Later adjustment, damage or penalty invoices, credit notes or refunds leave rental payments already posted unchanged.
Unless stated otherwise, fixed fees and penalties are gross, including VAT where VAT applies; VAT may be added to repairs, parts, third-party invoices and other actual costs where Cyprus law allows. Overdue sums may be recovered with reasonable collection, legal, bank and admin costs.
A confirmed breach needing extra case work, such as reviewing GPS, mileage or payment records, calculating penalties or damage, a separate invoice, a breach notice, evidence or inspection report, or dealing with a garage, recovery firm, insurer, police, authority, bank or payment provider, brings a one-time 25 EUR admin fee per documented incident. It is charged once however many ordinary emails or reminders follow, and never for the rental invoice, ordinary receipts, routine messages, the normal handover or the normal return check.
We may choose not to charge, or to reduce or waive, a cost in one case: goodwill only, setting no precedent or right for any other.
Two further annexes price damage: a 40-line car list and a 30-line scooter and moped list. Both are indicative guidelines; the actual cost may be charged if higher. Their line figures appear in the agreement only.
| Event | Charge |
|---|---|
| Off-road violation | 300, 450 or 600 EUR by vehicle class |
| Distance past the 15 m allowance | 15, 20 or 30 EUR per started km by vehicle class |
| Late return | 100 EUR plus 20 EUR per started hour |
| Extension asked less than 24 hours before return | Not extended automatically; if the vehicle comes back late, the late-return charges apply |
| Use past the return time without written approval | 100 EUR plus 20 EUR per started hour, plus extra rent, recovery, loss-of-use and operating costs |
| Return to a place not agreed | 300 EUR plus costs |
| Key, fob or remote not returned | 450 EUR each plus costs |
| Staff time | 20 EUR per hour per person |
| Relocation wear | 1.00 EUR per km |
| Fuel used to recover or move the vehicle | At cost |
| Garage inspection after off-road or prohibited use | At the garage's actual cost |
| Admin fee | 25 EUR, once per incident |
| Loss of use | The daily rate or 75 EUR a day, whichever is higher |
When we can stop a hire early
We may refuse, suspend, end or cancel a hire for a breach, false information, a missing payment or deposit, misuse, or risk to the vehicle, us, others or the public. We may also refuse or end one if licence details are false, incomplete, expired, invalid or unsuitable for the vehicle.
We may also end a hire under way and take the vehicle back without refund for a breach, non-payment, no deposit or hold, unlawful use, off-road driving, a prohibited area, refusal to return, abandonment, an unauthorised driver, keys not returned, a wrong-place return, or risk to the vehicle or us. Then return it at once or let us recover it. Ending it cancels nothing you owe.
Tracking, cameras and evidence in a dispute
Vehicles may carry active GPS and telematics for safety, compliance, insurance, operations and disputes. We may monitor location, route history, speed, mileage, stops and parking places, geofence and prohibited-area entries, off-road movement and distance, a wrong-place return or abandonment, device status and alerts, and driving behaviour relevant to the agreement.
The data may be used to check compliance, investigate accidents, locate and recover the vehicle, detect prohibited use, calculate off-road distance and extra mileage, confirm late or wrong returns, answer chargebacks and complaints, and as evidence for insurers, banks, payment providers, courts, police or authorities. GPS evidence may be used to enforce the off-road, prohibited-area, territory, speeding, late-return, wrong-return and unauthorised-use penalties.
At our office, desk, handover and return areas, customer interactions may be recorded on video and audio for security, fraud prevention, service, the contract, disputes and evidence. Recordings may be used in disputes, chargebacks, complaints, damage or insurance claims and legal or police matters, and are kept for a limited period unless such a matter or another legitimate business purpose needs them. The data controller is Car Hire Paphos LTD, reachable at info@carhirepaphos.cy.
If you open a chargeback, bank or payment dispute, complaint or claim, we may give the relevant evidence to the bank, card issuer, processor, insurer, police, court, lawyer or authority. It may include the agreement, booking details, payment records, invoices, receipts, the card-on-file authorisation, GPS data, photos, inspection sheets, video, audio, emails, WhatsApp and SMS messages, call records and staff notes. A refund, credit note, goodwill reduction or settlement waives none of our rights unless we say so in writing.
Our privacy notice covers what this website itself handles.
